Barrel Cactus
California Barrel Cactus (Ferocactus cylindraceus) formerly F. acanthodes, Death Valley, CaliforniaThe Barrel Cactus appeared around 3000 feet in elevation above and outside Death Valley. It is one large columnar or barrel-shaped stem; flowers are yellow or reddish near the base of the petals. Normal flowering will occur during April through May. It will normally be found along washes, on gravelly slopes, and on canyon walls in deserts.
