The Halibut - Eagle Food
Copyright Barbara Samuelson 1997
This is the head of a Pacific Halibut (Hippoglossus stenolepis)
tossed onto the rocks in Sitka, Alaska. The halibut can get up to 8 feet
in length, 500 lbs in weight, and live up to 55 years. Notice how both eyes
have migrated over to the same side of it's head--it is from the flounder
family, a flatfish.
