Red-shouldered Hawk
Copyright Barbara Samuelson 2003
Red-shouldered Hawk (Buteo lineatus); Long winged and long
tailed, showing crescent at base of primaries when viewed from below in
flight. Flight is accipiter-like with several quick wing beats and a glide.
More common in riparian areas. Smaller that the Red-tailed
Hawk and slightly broader than a female Cooper's
Hawk.
