Juvenile Eagle On Rock
Copyright Barbara Samuelson 1997
This juvenile was waiting to feed on the salmon back and tail discarded
by a commercial fisherman in Sitka, Alaska. Juveniles appear much larger
than mature bald eagles and do not back off in a fight for food. Notice
the mottled color of his feathers. Bald eagles do not reach their famous
appearance until their fifth year.
